The Amazing Spider Man 2 Xbox 360 Review
The Astonishing Spider-man. Just those iii words are plenty to sell a game and then the latest Spidey adventure should sell by the bucketloads. But sales figures don't necessarily interpret to a slap-up game and in that location hasn't yet been a Spiderman title that has washed for Peter Parker what the Batman Arkham games have done for Bruce Wayne. At that place's always hope that the next one will be better than the last and mayhap that'due south all we ever ask for when we become involved with our favourite web toting super hero.
And so here we are with The Amazing Spider-man 2 on Xbox 360. Coinciding with the large screen motion-picture show release of the aforementioned proper name, gamers are going to want a whole load of Spidey to get to grips with. Accept they got that?
Um, nope!
But let me tell y'all why.
I was a big fan of The Amazing Spider-human on Xbox 360. Okay, so it wasn't the greatest game ever to grace the console, just it was good fun to play. The story was okay, the fighting was okay and the game equally a whole was just okay. What really made me go along playing it though were the numerous side missions and collectables available to detect. They kept me going for hours and not once did I get bored.
And and then when I heard The Amazing Spider-man ii was coming along I instantly sat upward and took detect, set up to experience the latest story and hopefully become back and collect even more comics. Boy I wish I hadn't.
Where the commencement one was okay at best, this sequel doesn't even match up to that. There are a whole load of things wrong with it and unfortunately for Beenox and Activision, not an awful lot of expert to write home near. Merely we shall indeed starting time with the positives, and so sit back, grab a super stiff potable and read on for the next 30 seconds or so before nosotros get to the negatives.
Offset up, and in instance you weren't sure, Spiderman is involved a fair old chip. That'due south pretty par for the course, as are the numerous villains you'll discover yourself up against with The Greenish Goblin, Kingpin, Shocker and Electro amongst others all present. The main bulk of the story revolves around a load of Russians, Kingpin and that old Spidey favourite, Oscorp and as is normally the case, it's up to us and Spider-human being to salvage Manhattan from meltdown. Spider-human fans will become their set and should just about be happy plenty to take in the story, swing their way around the city, bargain out some justice and help salve citizens from nearly decease, but if you don't have likewise much of a fondness for our hero then don't expect to detect anything here which will swing it your style.
You may recall that ane of my favourite bits of the first game were the numerous side missions and collectables bachelor to discover. Well, further good news is that there are a fair onetime amount of these to be constitute in Spidey ii. With car chases, photo ops, fire rescues and bomb disposals littered all over the metropolis, yous certainly won't find a spare infinitesimal to simply sit down in and accept in the sights and sounds of downtown Manhattan. Which is a bit of luck really, because you won't wanna exist taking in the sights and sounds of downtown Manhattan, as whatever views that could (and actually should) have been so skillful, have turned into a right sometime mess.
Poor graphics, crazy flickering lighting furnishings, banal textures and sudden pop ups mean the vast bulk of what you come across on your screen volition exist coming at you straight from 2008 or in some cases, much earlier. Information technology's highly disappointing to see and a massive step dorsum from anything else we are used to, peculiarly if y'all also own an Xbox I.
Merely that'southward not all.
Whilst the actual storyline is of a decent enough quality, you'll constantly be finding yourself laughing and and then quickly crying at how abysmal the vocalisation acting and character movements are. It's all one-time chapeau and makes you lot want to help Spidey hang himself from one of his own webs. Whilst on the erstwhile webbing subject, you tin can apparently tie up or pin enemies to the flooring but by doing and then in that location is no mechanic to finish victims and Spider-man from partaking in a fleck of grapheme combining, instead assuasive characters to walk straight through each other…something else we haven't seen for many a year!
When you do come across any enemies y'all'll observe that other than the big bosses, all standard enemy types can be quite quickly overcome with a few taps of the web shoot push button and so a pounding of attack and counter options. I could sit here and mutter that the fights are as well like shooting fish in a barrel, or that they aren't especially exciting simply truth be told they were a welcome break from the balance of the rubbish, with the major downside of whatsoever fight (and indeed anything that the new 'morality system' has a play in) beingness that each were accompanied by more listen numbing 5 second long news bulletins that I'd seen enough of subsequently the get-go i.
Play on enough to take in a few dominate battles and whilst the difficulty of the fights aren't that much higher than against the usual ruffians, at least you'll need to start thinking slightly most when to pull off an attack, when to sit down back to dodge, or when to play it cool and go in with a counter. There aren't however too many bosses to dispose of and with only 14 missions throughout the unabridged story (some of which are no longer than ten minutes in length), it won't accept you lot long to find yourself at the end of the main campaign, after which you'll be back with the fun grinding of side missions and collectables…..and when I say 'fun grinding' it's a hell of a lot more fun than actually playing through the story!
If y'all're able to look beyond the stupidly long loading times, atrocious graphics, game killing bugs (I plant myself trapped in pipes more times than I intendance to think!), and numerous other problems then The Amazing Spider-man 2 can be a half decent time filler, if only for the 300 odd comics y'all tin swing around collecting. Information technology'southward just a massive shame that the whole game feels rushed, unloved and drastic.
Spidey deserves amend. Much meliorate.
